Nine Steps to PDPM Webinar Series

July 16, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - July 16, 2020 @ 3:00 pm

October 1, 2019 will be a significant day for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) across the country. On this date, the new Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) will go into effect. SNFs of all sizes and scopes must prepare for these changes, and doing so will take a well-organized and deliberate plan of attack. Richter has developed that plan for you.

Richter’s Nine Steps to PDPM webinar series will provide SNF facilities with the vital knowledge they need in this new landscape, and it will highlight the path needed to ensure compliance and efficiency. Each month, a new webinar will be presented on a PDPM-related topic ranging from clinical applications to financial implications. SNF facility representatives can attend each webinar (or watch the recording) to gain insight on that PDPM topic. Following the webinar, facility representatives can take what they learned and apply it within their facility. This same process will repeat monthly as new and important PDPM-related information is presented. The monthly format of this webinar series provides ample time and space to help participants absorb manageable pieces of information. This systematic approach will decrease staff stress and help them retain more of what they learned.

Beginning in January 2019 and continuing each month, we will present one webinar on a relevant PDPM topic.

PDPM is a fundamental change in SNF reimbursement for the Medicare Fee for Service (FFS) Part A program. This change is a precursor to the Unified Payment System required by the IMPACT Act for Post-Acute Care providers. While the basic structure of the UB-04 remains the same, the changes pertaining to PDPM require increased focus on the recognition of revenue and tracking the Variable Per Diem (VPD), as well as accurate census management. PDPM requires a fully integrated interdisciplinary team approach, including the biller.

Reimbursement is based on the clinical conditions of the resident rather than the therapy services provided. In this session we will discuss the components of PDPM as they relate to the clinical conditions that drive reimbursement.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Name the six (6) components of PDPM
  • Identify the three (3) scenarios pertaining to the Interrupted Stay Policy
  • Identify basic changes in reimbursement under PDPM
  • Identify the six (6) components of the Case Mix Grouper (CMG)
  • Discuss the necessary changes to the Triple Check Process
